The first circum navigation of the globe, Magellan's vision, and his journey into the unknown from 1519 to 1522 and the newly discovered islands and cultures inspired Ursula Heindl to label her latest series of paintings The World Is Not Flat. With the titles of her paintings she follows Magellan geographically to Cebu, Guam, Palawan or Ternate and Pukapuka.
Magellan sharpened our vision of the world, which was beforehand just two dimensional and unfocused. Since then our perception of the world has gained another dimension and now, at the onset of the 21st century, we see the digital world so unfocused that we are again traveling uncharted waters. |
